AltSea Privacy Policy

Last updated:

AltSea is built with privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what data we collect (spoiler: almost nothing), how we store it, and your rights.

Zero Cloud Dependency for Core Features: This app has zero cloud dependency for its core features. It stores data locally on your device and works entirely offline. Unlike cloud-based apps, we cannot discontinue your access to this app’s core features. Even if development stops, the app continues working. Your data is yours, stored on your device, permanently.

1. What We DON’T Collect

AltSea is designed to respect your privacy:

  • No behavioral tracking: We don’t profile, track, or monetize what links you clean or where you browse. If you sign in and turn on sync, your saved links and link history back up to your account for cross-device access. Sync is optional and controlled per type, so anything you don’t sync stays on your device. That’s your data working for you, not behavioral tracking or advertising (see Data Storage below)
  • No advertising IDs: We don’t use advertising IDs for analytics
  • No sign-in required for core features: AltSea’s core link-cleaning features work without an account
  • No forced telemetry: Optional telemetry services stay off unless you explicitly enable them

2. Data Storage

Local-First by Default

AltSea is local-first for its core link-cleaning functionality.

The main link interception and URL cleanup features can run on-device without requiring an account.

Some features may still use network requests even if you are not signed in, such as:

  • App update checks
  • Optional link availability checks
  • Optional web preview fetching
  • Optional crash reporting
  • Optional usage analytics

The following data is stored locally by default:

  • Settings
  • Saved Links: Stored on your device; synced to your account only if you sign in and enable sync for them
  • Link History: Optional feature, stored locally if enabled; synced to your account only if you sign in and enable sync for it
  • Categories: Your link categories, stored on your device; synced to your account only if you sign in and enable sync for them
  • Usage Statistics: Stored locally on your device
  • Ignored Domains: Your custom domain rules, stored locally on your device

Default behavior: You can use AltSea’s core local features without signing in. Optional features may use network requests when enabled.

Optional Account Features, Backup & Sync

Default: Optional

Some optional features in AltSea use cloud services when you choose to sign in or use account-based features. AltSea’s core link-cleaning features still work locally on your device without requiring an account.

When you sign in, AltSea can back up and sync the following data to your account (stored through our backend provider, Supabase) so it’s available across your devices:

  • Saved links: The link URL plus any title, description, image, and category you attach to it
  • Link history: The links you’ve recorded, with timestamps (only if you have the Link History feature enabled)
  • Categories: The categories you create to organize your links
  • Account profile and preferences: Your email and name, and a backup of your app settings

Sync for saved links, link history, and categories is optional and controlled per type. You can turn it off for any of them, and that data then stays on your device only. Signing in is required for any sync, and all data is transmitted over HTTPS. When you delete a synced item, it is first marked as deleted (so the deletion propagates to your other devices) and then removed. See Data Retention.

You can continue using AltSea’s core local features without signing in. Your links leave your device only when you sign in and turn on sync for them.

3. Optional Telemetry (Opt-In Only)

Both telemetry services are disabled by default and require your explicit consent.

Crash Reporting (Sentry)

Default: Disabled

When enabled:

  • What’s sent: Error messages, stack traces, device info (OS version, app version)
  • NOT sent: Your links, browsing history, personal data, synced data
  • Purpose: Fix bugs and improve app stability
  • How to disable: Settings → Crash Reporting (toggle off)
  • Sentry Privacy Policy: https://sentry.io/privacy/

Usage Analytics (Amplitude)

Default: Disabled

When enabled:

  • What’s sent: Usage events (e.g., “Fast Mode used”, “Settings opened”)
  • NOT sent: Actual URLs, link content, personal information, synced data
  • Purpose: Understand feature usage to prioritize improvements
  • How to disable: Settings → Usage Analytics (toggle off)
  • Amplitude Privacy Policy: https://amplitude.com/privacy

4. Permissions Explained

INTERNET

  • Why: Check link availability, fetch web previews, and support optional account, backup, and sync features
  • How: Used only for optional network and account-related features

ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE

  • Why: Check whether you’re online before making a network request for an optional feature
  • How: Used only to support optional network features (such as link availability checks, web previews, and account/backup/sync) and to avoid failed requests; no browsing data is collected

POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+)

  • Why: Show notifications for Fast Mode and for scheduled link reminders (“Remind Me Later”)
  • How: A brief notification appears while Fast Mode handles a link, and a notification alerts you when a scheduled link is due
  • Control: You can deny it and still use Advanced Mode, but scheduled link reminders need it to notify you

FOREGROUND_SERVICE and FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE

  • Why: Let Fast Mode run a short-lived foreground service so it can open your link and show the result when you tap a link from another app
  • How: Runs only briefly while handling a link, with a visible notification; no background tracking

RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED and WAKE_LOCK

  • Why: Reliably open scheduled links on time, including re-arming pending reminders after your device restarts
  • How: Used only to run scheduled link work; no data is collected

USE_BIOMETRIC and USE_FINGERPRINT

  • Why: Required by Android’s Credential Manager, which powers Google Sign-In
  • How: Used only if you choose to sign in with Google and your device asks to confirm it’s you. AltSea has no biometric lock of its own and never receives your biometric data

Billing (com.android.vending.BILLING)

  • Why: Process optional in-app purchases for premium features through Google Play
  • How: Used only if you buy a premium feature; payments are handled by Google Play and RevenueCat (see Third-Party Services)

5. Third-Party Services and Optional Cloud Processing

Browsers

AltSea opens cleaned links in your chosen browser. We don’t control browser privacy policies, so check your browser’s privacy settings for how they handle URLs.

Optional Services

  • Google Sign-In: Used when you choose to sign in. These services process your sign-in information and account-related data as part of authentication and account features.
  • RevenueCat: Used for premium purchase and entitlement-related flows. When account-based premium features are used, RevenueCat may receive an account-linked identifier needed to manage purchases and entitlements.
  • Sentry: Used only if you explicitly enable crash reporting.
  • Amplitude: Used only if you explicitly enable usage analytics.
  • Feedback submissions: If you send feedback through the app, we may receive the information you choose to submit, such as your message, name, email address, and any optional diagnostic attachment or app logs you include.

You should also review the privacy policies of any third-party services you choose to use through AltSea.

Optional Network Requests

Some features may use network requests even when you are not signed in:

  • Link availability checks: HTTP HEAD/GET request to verify a URL is reachable
  • Web previews: Fetches Open Graph metadata such as title, description, and image
  • App update checks: Contacts AltSea services to check for newer versions

If you sign in or use account-based features, additional network activity may occur for account management, backup, syncing, premium status, and support flows.

Website Analytics

This marketing website uses Umami Analytics to understand page views and conversion-focused actions, such as Google Play, Discord, feature request, contact, demo, and link-flow clicks.

Website analytics are used to understand whether the website is helping people find and evaluate AltSea. They do not track the links you clean in the app, cleaned URL contents, browsing history, account deletion form contents, or other personal form payloads.

Umami is configured to respect browser Do Not Track settings and to exclude URL search parameters and hashes from analytics.

6. Data Retention

On-Device Data

  • Saved links: Retained until you manually delete them
  • Link history: Retained until you clear it or disable the feature
  • Settings: Retained until you uninstall the app
  • Statistics: Retained until you uninstall the app

Account and Cloud Data (if used)

  • Synced links, link history, and categories: Retained while your account is active (items you keep local-only are never uploaded). When you delete a synced item, it is marked as deleted to propagate the deletion across your devices, then permanently removed
  • Account information and backup/sync data: Retained while your account or related feature use remains active
  • Purchase and entitlement records: Retained as needed to manage premium access and related compliance obligations
  • Feedback submissions: Retained as needed to respond to your message, troubleshoot issues, and keep support records
  • Deleted account-related data: Removed within a reasonable period after account deletion or deletion request, unless a longer retention period is required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons

Telemetry Data (if opted in)

7. Children’s Privacy

  • AltSea is suitable for users of all ages
  • Account creation and sync features require users to be 13 years or older
  • Core local features do not require us to identify you
  • If account-based features are used, we may process limited account information and age-related status records
  • Optional usage analytics are disabled by default
  • If you’re a parent/guardian and have concerns about your child’s use of the app, contact us at [email protected]

8. Changes to Privacy Policy

We will notify you of privacy policy changes via:

  • App update release notes
  • In-app notification

Continued use after notification constitutes acceptance.

Your control: You can always delete your data before accepting changes.
