Privacy Policy

Last updated:

AltSea is built with privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what data we collect (spoiler: almost nothing), how we store it, and your rights.

Zero Cloud Dependency for Core Features: This app has zero cloud dependency for its core features. It stores data locally on your device and works entirely offline. Unlike cloud-based apps, we cannot discontinue your access to this app’s core features. Even if development stops, the app continues working. Your data is yours, stored on your device, permanently.

1. What We DON’T Collect

AltSea is designed to respect your privacy:

  • No browsing tracking: We don’t track what links you clean or where you browse
  • No third-party data sharing: Except for opt-in telemetry services (Sentry, Amplitude)
  • No tracking identifiers: We don’t use tracking IDs
  • No access to synced data: We don’t have access to your data

2. Data Storage

Local-First by Default

Everything stays on your device unless you explicitly opt in to cloud features.

The following data is stored locally:

  • Settings
  • Saved Links
  • Link History: Optional feature, stored locally if enabled
  • Usage Statistics
  • Ignored Domains: Your custom domain rules

Default behavior: Nothing leaves your device. You can optionally enable syncing later for convenience.

Optional Cloud Sync & Backup (Opt-In) (TBD - Not yet available)

Default: Disabled

When you explicitly enable cloud sync:

Encryption & Security

  • End-to-end encrypted: Data is encrypted on your device before transmission
  • We cannot read your data: Only you hold the decryption keys
  • HTTPS for transport: All data transmission uses HTTPS (end-to-end encryption in transit)
  • Encryption at rest: Data is encrypted at the database level on our servers
  • Server storage: Encrypted data stored on AltSea servers (we cannot decrypt it)

What’s Synced (when enabled)

  • Saved Links: Your saved URLs and associated metadata
  • Link History: Your browsing history (if history tracking is also enabled)
  • Settings & Preferences: App settings, ignored domains, quick action preferences

What’s NOT Synced

  • Usage statistics: Browser preferences, cleanup rule counts and recently used options
  • Active URL processing: Links you’re currently cleaning are never transmitted unless you explicitly save them

How to Enable/Disable

Note: At the time of writing Cloud Syncing isn’t yet implemented.

Data Access & Server Location

  • Data access: We cannot access your synced data due to end-to-end encryption
  • Server location: European Union (EU)

Deleting Cloud Data

  • Settings → Sync & Backup → Delete Cloud Data: Permanently removes all synced data from servers
  • Account deletion: Contact us to delete your account and all associated data

3. Optional Telemetry (Opt-In Only)

Both telemetry services are disabled by default and require your explicit consent.

Crash Reporting (Sentry)

Default: Disabled

When enabled:

  • What’s sent: Error messages, stack traces, device info (OS version, app version)
  • NOT sent: Your links, browsing history, personal data, synced data
  • Purpose: Fix bugs and improve app stability
  • How to disable: Settings → Crash Reporting (toggle off)
  • Sentry Privacy Policy: https://sentry.io/privacy/

Usage Analytics (Amplitude)

Default: Disabled

When enabled:

  • What’s sent: Anonymous usage events (e.g., “Fast Mode used”, “Link copied”, “Settings opened”)
  • NOT sent: Actual URLs, link content, personal information, synced data
  • Purpose: Understand feature usage to prioritize improvements
  • How to disable: Settings → Usage Analytics (toggle off)
  • Amplitude Privacy Policy: https://amplitude.com/privacy

4. Permissions Explained

INTERNET

  • Why: Check link availability, fetch web previews, enable cloud sync (all optional)
  • How: Only when you enable optional network features

POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+)

  • Why: Required for Fast Mode to work
  • How: Brief notification displayed while processing link
  • Control: Required for Fast Mode; use Advanced Mode if you deny this permission

5. Third-Party Integrations

Browsers

AltSea opens cleaned links in your chosen browser. We don’t control browser privacy policies—check your browser’s privacy settings for how they handle URLs.

Network Requests (Optional)

When you enable optional network features:

  • Link Availability Checks: HTTP HEAD/GET request to verify URL is reachable
  • Web Previews: Fetches Open Graph metadata (title, description, image)
  • Cloud Sync: Encrypted data transmission to AltSea servers (if sync enabled)

No Tracking: AltSea protects your privacy by default, even on these optional features. All link-related requests, such as checking link availability or generating a preview, use standard HTTPS with no cookies or persistent identifiers.

6. Data Retention

On-Device Data

  • Saved links: Retained until you manually delete them
  • Link history: Retained until you clear it or disable the feature
  • Settings: Retained until you uninstall the app
  • Statistics: Retained until you uninstall the app

Cloud Sync Data (if enabled)

  • Synced data: Retained on servers until you:
    • Disable sync and delete cloud data
    • Delete your account (contact us)
  • Encryption keys: Stored only on your devices, never on servers
  • Deleted data: Permanently removed within 30 days of deletion request

Telemetry Data (if opted in)

7. Children’s Privacy

  • AltSea is suitable for users of all ages
  • Account creation and sync features require users to be 13 years or older
  • We do not collect any data that can be used to identify individual users
  • Our optional, anonymized usage analytics cannot identify or track any user, including children
  • If you’re a parent/guardian and have concerns about your child’s use of the app, contact us at altseaapp@gmail.com

We will notify you of privacy policy changes via:

  • App update release notes
  • In-app notification

Continued use after notification constitutes acceptance.

Your control: You can always delete your data before accepting changes.
